Google merges Writely and Spreadsheets
Google has merged Writely, now known as Docs, and Spreadsheets together to form one super online office application. Ok, so it's not super yet, and it still does have some catching up to do with Zoho Office, but it's on the way.Google Account users now have the benefit of creating, and storing documents and spreadsheets together in the new Docs and Spreadsheets service. Google has listened to users suggestions, and made this into a combined list, that works with the same ideas as Gmail with stars, tags, and searches. Sharing documents and spreadsheets is a breeze, simply choose the individuals you would like to collaborate with, and invite them to view. Google has added another feature here, which allows collaborators the ability to share your spreadsheets.
It looks like a hit so far. One easy convenient location to store all online documents, all under a Google Account ID. The real virtual office is on the way, even though this has not been rolled out for Google Apps for domains....the users that could really benefit from this service. Check out the newly launched Google docs and Spreadsheets blog and a little online tour for more information.
Check out some screenshots after the jump.

So, just how good at time waster games are you? Think you've got the stuff? Well, The World's Hardest Game 2.0 doesn't think you do.
Yes, amazingly, it's possible to have a sequel to a game called "The World's Hardest Game". It doesn't seem logically possible, since if the first one was actually the world's hardest, how could another one come along and share the moniker? It made me doubt the name in the first place. That is, until I tried the game.
The mechanics of the game are very simple. You are a small red square, ...

It looks like Writely forwards to Docs and Spreadsheets now. Too bad, I really liked their interface. And Beta meter.

Writely does have a ribbon-style toolbar now; wonder where they got that idea? ;) Pity the name has gone though. There was something essentially Google-ish about names like Writely and Spreadly, even if they didn't invent it. "Docs and spreadsheets" sounds so... Microsoft-ish. Still I guess that name will go soon too when the inevitable gOffice name becomes official. When that happens there will be another avalanche of publicity for them!

How long will it be until they release a presentation creator? That will complete their online suite then. There used to be rumours about them purchasing ThumbStacks, but I think they would make it in house as they did with Spreadsheets.

So much for Google's Mac integration. The new Docs doesnt work on Safari whereas the old Spreadsheets worked fine.
