ThemesPress - convert HTML and CSS into WordPress themes "in minutes!"
I am certainly no PHP-slinging WordPress guru, but I am pretty impressed at the promise of ThemesPress: converting your plain ol' HTML and CSS layout into a fully-functional WordPress theme. After a simple 4-step process involving uploading your layout's images and code, you're able to preview your final template and make unlimited changes before dropping $10 for the service. They make it sound simple enough, but with all the ugliness of cross-browser HTML and CSS compatibility, I'm skeptical. If any of you try this out, feel free to share your experiences in the comments.

It's really not very ugly if you do it right.
Still, I'm skeptical of most WYSIWYG editors, precisely because so few of them do it right.

It's definitely not ugly if it's done well. Check out CSS Zen Garden, where you can witness dramatic (and beautiful) changes in presentation achieved solely by CSS changes -- that is, the HTML structure of the document is unaltered. As far as I've been able to tell, the rendering is pretty much the same on all browsers/OSes.
Regarding WordPress themes, I had to hand-code all the templates for my own site... very time-consuming. I'll check out this utility and see how well it works for generating a theme. Note however that one would still have to tinker with the code to get his site to function exactly how he wants.

I actually was very impressed. I did a review of it on my blog, at http://gizbuzz.co.uk/2006/themespress-launches/ .

I really hope this even remotely lives up to expectations. Being able to code a mockup and then change it into a Wordpress Template will really help out in web design.
