Yahoo! Mail Beta open to the public
According to Read/Write Web, who has an exclusive podcast with Yahoo! Mail product manager Ethan Diamond, Yahoo released its new Mail Beta to the public on September 13th. The AJAX powered application is one of the best I have seen on the web to date. It functions much like Microsoft Outlook and includes a built-in RSS reader. Ethan Diamond has a quick screencast so you can see the type of features the new Yahoo Mail has. I have been beta testing it for some time, and I agree that it is very good. Tabbed messaging is something not even the new (2007) version of Outlook has, and Yahoo does it well.

I really like the RSS Feed feature.
It's the only thing missing from my gmail account.

It doesn't allow for Usenet-style quoting for replies, instead opting for the Outlook-inspiring top-posting technique, which I hate. I've tried the beta three times over the past year, always switched back, never trying it again until they allow me to quote properly.

I've been using the new beta since the UK Beta hack a while ago. While I don't use it for my primary (daily) email, I do check my Y! account once a week or so, and I really dig the new interface.

I really like the new interface. I have been using it for a number of months now. One thing I don't like is that it seems to run considerably slow than the "old" interface. So much so that I am going to switch back to the original version. I use this account mainly for registering at websites that require an email account so most of my time in Yahoo mail is spent deleting "special" offers and getting rid of the spam that manages to get through the filters.
A bit off subject but I'd like to mention that I think the Yahoo spam filters do a very good job of removing a large majority of the spam that comes my way.

I used the Beta for a while then switched back. I didn't like that there weren't any of the check-off boxes next to the messages. I also use Yahoo for signing up on websites. The first thing I do is running down the list of messages and putting checks in the boxes to delete. That's a must for me.
Also, I don't like the Outlook-type interface, it takes up too much screen space, I want to see more emails at-a-glance.
And another thing, I hope it doesn't become too much like Google, I hate tags. I love my folders and a clean inbox. I want my inbox to be just what I haven't read yet.

In response to Wendy's comments:
Checkboxes: You can do something similar with the Yahoo! Mail Beta; just hold down the Control key as you click on a message, and you can select multiple messages as once (like with Outlook or other email programs). Then you can delete all of 'em at once.
Too much screen space: You can turn off the reading pane by pressing the letter 'v' on your keyboard, or going up to the View menu and turning off the reading pane. Opens up much more screen real estate.

I have been having trouble with the email not loading and then it locks up the mail account. The only way to get it off is rebooting the computer. This just started this last week.

I like Yahoo! Mail Beta. The problem is, some of my friends are having problems getting their emails through to me. They receive failure notice too many times. Spam protection works well for real spammers, but not for personal emails...
