- Integrated calendar at bottom of window
- File uploads/attachments take place in the background
- Addition of 'spam' column in message list, and return of 'size' column
- Firefox enhancements: faster composing, smoother scrolling, contact editing, no more overlapping search results (looks like they figured out how to clear floats!)
Once the file was attached, all was back to normal; but that wouldn't do me much good if I wanted to cancel the upload!

Overall, I'm pleased with the improvements in this new release, but I'm still holding out for even more. I know, I know... beta testers are perpetually unsated.
What are your impressions of Yahoo! Mail Beta? Feel free to share them here.
(Thanks, Gregg!)
Update: Reader Ryan Kennedy informs us that the screenshots I posted are not from the newest release. Apparently the server farm my account's on hasn't been upgraded yet. Thanks for the correction, Ryan!

This is a big upgrade for anyone (like me) who uses Yahoo! Calendar as their main scheduling system. Whereas I used to keep two tabs open in Firefox to manage scheduling and updates (why are usually generated from emails), now I can do it in the same interface, which rocks!
That said, the "ticker" paradigm for the calendar entries isn't intuitive and doesn't really work very well, particularly since it includes each entry for each date, which makes left right scrolling hard to predict. Better would be to simply scroll links for each day in the week, with the hover box presenting the individual entries for that date, and allowing each to be accessed for editing from that box.

I use this as my second mail apt. It's still way to buggy. Takes forever to load. Seems as if the advertisement's, get in the way, of it loading faster. Still, needs lots of work. But, once, its done, and out of Beta, it should, be a # 1, e-mail program.

Amber, that's not the new build. The new file upload looks nothing like that. The farm you're on (813) hasn't been updated yet.

I'm looking forward to seeing the return of the size column, smoother scrolling and a faster application in general. It's really annoying how it has to keep loading a different image on the right so I'm currently using the Adblock firefox plugin but it's still sometimes slow.

But how is the spam fighting features? The current old version I use is so bad as to be almost unusable. Yahoo has to make that a priority or I'll ignore all the new flashy stuff and not use it.

@Sean - I've been a Y! Mail user for years and for the last few years I have been nothing but impressed how Y!'s spamguard works. I have thousands of spam trapped in my spam folder and just becuz I'm the nervous type, I will scan through it to ensure it hasn't filtered out good mail. It may do that 4-5 times a year. And I see little to no spam come into my inbox. I see comments like yours (you're not the only one making that statement and I've seen you repeat this statement elsewhere) and have to wonder, "what's different for you?"

I have to echo Joe Beaulaurier's comment on spam. I do exactly what he does (and occasionally one of my legitimate emails does get into the spam folder, but its usually of the bulk mail variety (e-newsletters and the like). I think I had the first spam encounter in my Inbox yesterday in well over a year. Yahoo's spam protection is even better than whatever solution my employer is using for its systems.
