Myth 0.20 is released

Good day Linux fans! As of yesterday, the new version (0.20) of MythTV is ready for your downloading and PVR pleasure. This release is new, (obviously) and features some new stuff: better DVD playback, DVB radio channel support, mouse support, and MythArchive (a new plug-in), which allows your recordings to be burned to DVD. For a while now MythTV has been a great and cheap way to get yourself a nice and moderately full-featured PVR. If you don't want to pay tons of money to get a manufactured PVR, MythTV (for Linux) makes a nice PVR box. I still haven't set up a PVR using MythTV, but I keep meaning to. I have a PC I have my eye on for this purpose, an older one, so maybe I will get with it and install MythTV someday soon. Any suggestions as to what Linux distro is best for MythTV? How about for general desktop consumption? Any that you recommend?

With Halloween fast approaching, it's a great time to get in some practice defending your territory against zombies. In Graveyard Shift, you take aim at zombies and other creepy-crawlies, blasting them into splatters of cartoony green guts. It's a casual first-person shooter, and it's very easy to get the hang of - use the mouse to aim, click to fire. Graveyard Shift has at least 15 levels, and it might even have some secret stages I haven't unlocked yet.

I have been struggling with a mythtv install for well over a year now but that is mainly because I picked all the wrong hardware to do it with (and I want HD support).
easiest ways to install myth are with
knoppmyth (mysettopbox.tv) - debian based
or mythDora (http://swik.net/MythDora) - fedora based
I have been trying to do it from scratch with Kubuntu which has not been working out well for me.

I would suggest Knoppmyth, a relatively easy installable MythTV distribution. Check http://www.mysettopbox.tv/knoppmyth.html
But I assume it hasn't been updated to MythTV v 0.20 yet.

I've installed MythTV and love it. I'm still a few releases behind, but the functionality is great. The easiest way that I've found to get it up and running is Knoppmyth (http://mysettopbox.tv/knoppmyth.html), a distro based on Knoppix and dedicated to running MythTV. Very easy to set up and configure. And includes a fair number of tools to make administration of Linux and MythTV easier.

I had read that there were 3rd party folks that built this into various distros. So, if you had an old PC that you wanted to dedicate, it was a matter of slipping in a CD and letting it rip. I also would be interested in hearing more.

If I recall, there was a distro called Knoppmyth (or something to that effect). It's a Knoppix CD that included MythTV, and a boatload of drivers for the kinds of hardware you'd need to run Myth (Hauppage cards, etc).
I don't know how well they keep it updated, but it seems like it'd be the easiest way to get going.
I'd be interested to see Download Squad do some how-tos on something like this.

Hi, I live in the UK and use the budget PCI card for this purpose, along with Ubuntu (these cards are great - don't be put off by the word budget - all it means is they pull the MPEG2 multiplex straight off DVB-T signals and that's it - but that's perfect for Myth anyway). MythTV really is top class. If anyone wants any help setting it up then please get in touch - I currently have a headless always-on unit, an Xbox front-end (plugged into the telly) and my laptop (XP or Linux-based frontends) for watching in bed, etc. If anyone wants any help esp if they are in the UK and using DVB (Freeview) then get in touch with me - ewwsimpson at google's mail service, gmail.com.
