Vista RC1 is available for download to the Customer Preview Program. Basically anyone who registers should be able to download Vista RC1 (build 5600). If you are wondering what is new in build 5600, I would recommend checking out Paul Thurrott's WinSuperSite review. Paul says that the latest build of Vista is much better than the beta we all downloaded mere months ago. he says that many of the annoying security and compatibility problems are gone. I am downloading the new version, mostly because I think vista has great potential. It seems to be getting there from what I can tell, but why not try it out yourself? The download is available to anyone who already signed up for the Beta 2. You should also be able to register for the customer preview program (for vista) by clicking here.Vista RC1 download is available to the public

"Windows Vista Release Candidate 1 (RC1) is now available for Customer Preview Program (CPP) participants only. If you are not registered but would like to receive RC1, the CPP will open to new participants in the coming weeks."
Taken from http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/getready/preview.mspx
When I registered for Beta 2 I vaguely remember it saying that the keys would work with RC1 also.

Paul Thurrott has also pointed several flaws that still exist with this release, and it might be to close to the deadline to resolve these issues. However the general sense is that Vista RC1 has made great strides since Beta 2, particularly in terms of performance and compatibility.
However the devil is in the details and it's a sure bet that all the attention is going to be focused on those unpolished bits if they stay so in the final release.
@duke hafa - your comments make no sense at all.

Its a pity there isnt a LiveCD like preview, i am not really interested in partitioning and installing a RC1 release on my main machine, seeing that i do not have a secondary one.
A liveCd would have allwed me to judge Vista without any significant risk. I would love it if Msoft released such cd's, maybe with reduced functionalty, to "demo" their products. Unfortunately, we all know that 2-3 yesars from now, the whole world will have been switched to Vista, whether they like it or not.
