Windows Vista 5536 open to testers

Adam Maras alerts us to the fact that the Windows Vista (build 5536) is available to previous CPP testers, and can be downloaded up to the 100,000th user direct from Microsoft. I am downloading the pre-RC1 Vista build as I write this, and time is running out, so get it now before it is gone (that is if you care about Vista anymore, I've heard many people don't care). What has changed, what do you like better? Yeah, I know what all the experts say, I have read it on all the other builds like you have, but what do you think about Vista's features vs. the distant release date? What should be in Vista that isn't? What can you not stand about Vista? What are your reasons for using it or not using it? Will you download the beta or not? Didn't this come out last week? We are testing here at work already version 5536. I guess its open to everyone now.

Personally I have great expectations for Vista. I still find it a shame that WinFS has been dropped as, from what I understood, it would add radical new features for the organization and searching of files. As for the successive delays I find them frustrating but on the other hand they're understandable due to the change of direction that Microsoft had to take halfway during development. Also Microsoft cannot afford to release a half-baked OS, unstable and full of vulnerabilities like it did before or it'll risk losing a lot more marketshare to Linux and Mac OS X.
According to Paul Thurrot's and eWEEK's review the new Build 5536 shows some dramatical performance improvements so it looks like it's going in the right direction.
In the end I think that it falls down to whether these new features are accessible to developer and can be easily integrated into new apps, which will ultimately benefit the users.

Ubuntu stole Vista's thunder as far as I am concerned. I have no reason to upgrade to vista untill I upgrade my PC. Hopefully Vista will be under $200 by then, and Service Pack 1 will have worked out all the bugs.

I lost all interest. I would have killed for this 6 months ago, now I am looking at prices of MacBook Pro and wondering what else will be in Leopard.

I love my MBP and OSX...but I just removed the last vista public release, and am downloading 5536 now. I'll still stick with OSX, as I'm a front row addict...but I have to say that vista has OSX beat on aesthetics...and I love pretty OSes.
