VoiceMinder - Pocket PC voice note taker that works
Some ideas are so dead simple that when I hear about them, they make me feel stupid to not have thought of it first. VoiceMinder from WIS (the makers of the wonderful Pocket Informant PIM software that I wrote about recently in our GTD series) is the latest software idea to make me feel dumb, in a good way. While Pocket PC's have been able to record audio notes (most useful for voice recordings) since their inception, once recorded they don't do anything useful with them. At best, ActiveSync will synchronize your audio note into your notes folder in Outlook. I don't know about you, but while I do use the notes functionality in my Pocket PC as a sort of persistent sticky note application, I don't visit it regularly enough to check for voice recordings.
VoiceMinder takes care of the question of what to do with voice recordings in an obvious and yet brilliant way - it simply emails them to you. If there's one thing we all know we're going to check and process, it's our inbox, so it makes perfect sense for these notes to end up there. Frankly, it's almost embarrassing that there would be a need for a 3rd party application to perform this obvious function, but then WIS has made a very successful business on building (or should I say rebuilding) functionality for Pocket PCs the way it ought to have been in the first place.
VoiceMinder is currently in Release Candidate mode, giving the opportunity to kick the tires now. Previous WIS customers can pre-purchase their copy for $6.95, while it will cost new WIS customers $9.95.

So, just how good at time waster games are you? Think you've got the stuff? Well, The World's Hardest Game 2.0 doesn't think you do.
Yes, amazingly, it's possible to have a sequel to a game called "The World's Hardest Game". It doesn't seem logically possible, since if the first one was actually the world's hardest, how could another one come along and share the moniker? It made me doubt the name in the first place. That is, until I tried the game.
The mechanics of the game are very simple. You are a small red square, ...

NoteM is a free voice recorder application for PocketPC that is more useful; it can be configured to record low-bitrate MP3s instead of WAV files, so you may record for hours depending on the size of your flashcard or internal RAM.
The email function of VoiceMinder doens't impress me so much. If I need an email reminder of a voice note I've made, it can't be all that important.

The good thing about Voiceminder is your email becomes a "tickler" file. Some days, the ideas are rolling so fast I can't keep up with them. If I recorded them to a memory card, I'd forget about them. Checking email puts them right back in my face.
