Microsoft gives away Virtual PC 2004 for free
In what could be construed as a shot directly across VMware's bow, Microsoft has announced that as of now, Virtual PC 2004 is free. The virtualization software which, like VMware Server, allows many operating systems to run simultaneously on top of a host OS. Unfortunately it's only the Windows 2000/XP version of Virtual PC that's going free--the Mac version still has a price tag of $249. There's other good news, though: First, Microsoft has also announced that Virtual PC 2007 is in the works. Few details are available yet, but Windows Vista will be supported as both a host and guest OS, with support for 64-bit Vista and improved performance. Second, Microsoft will be loosening the license restrictions for enterprise customers and allowing up to four copies of Vista Enterprise Edition and Vista Ultimate to run on virtual machines for a single user.
With Halloween fast approaching, it's a great time to get in some practice defending your territory against zombies. In Graveyard Shift, you take aim at zombies and other creepy-crawlies, blasting them into splatters of cartoony green guts. It's a casual first-person shooter, and it's very easy to get the hang of - use the mouse to aim, click to fire. Graveyard Shift has at least 15 levels, and it might even have some secret stages I haven't unlocked yet.

Haven't they been giving away Virtual Server for several months now? http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserversystem/virtualserver/software/default.mspx
While it's nice that they went back and are giving away the workstation version, it's not like it's a new product.

Hrm ... I just installed the 45 day trial version the other day, now to figure out if I just click the activation for free life long use...
