Google Browser Sync

Yesterday saw the release of Google Browser Sync, an extension for Firefox from Google that stores your bookmarks, history, cookies, saved passwords, and open tabs and windows online so you can access them from anywhere (or, at least, anywhere you have access to Firefox and Google Browser Sync). This sort of thing has been done before (see Bookmarks Synchronizer and Foxmarks), but I think this is the first extension that stores not only bookmarks but also history, cookies, passwords, etc. Your data will be stored on Google's servers, but it will be encrypted with a key of your choosing before it's sent, which should protect it from evil hackers as well as (in theory) Google itself. Not bad, Google. Of course, Google Browser Sync is free but requires a Google Account.[Via Slashdot]

Yes, amazingly, it's possible to have a sequel to a game called "The World's Hardest Game". It doesn't seem logically possible, since if the first one was actually the world's hardest, how could another one come along and share the moniker? It made me doubt the name in the first place. Sounds pretty interesting. Question is how far can you trust the encryption? I'll have to think about it a while, but in theory the service sounds great.

Does anyone else have the problem where google sync loads everytime i open firefox? Its incredibly annoying.
Cant it just do it once in a while?

Mine has been timing out too, the Google Group for Desktop Sync has so far not been able to help. It tends to alternate between a 400 error and a 51 error. Will wait and see if this sorts itself out before using it... funnily enought, it works from my laptop!

Timeout. Timeout. Timeout. After several days of trying I uninstalled it. Support? Typical Google - no support available when it won't work.

Yeah, it loads all the time. It's a firefox extension which is loaded everytime firefox restarts. What you can do is get an extension which allows you to keep firefox open even through utilisation of the system tray. But, why would anywant want to keep firefox open when its memory usage is so poor.
The google sync icon is pretty ugly too.

The further step that Google took to spy on users. I am skeptical on how strong the encryption machanism and whether the key itself is not sent to Google servers.
