Rumor Alert: Mac OS X to get integrated BitTorrent support

Rumors says that according to some of their "oldest and most reliable sources," Mac OS X 10.5
"Leopard" will be shipping with an integrated BitTorrent
system that will be utilized for delivering software updates and iTunes content. For sharing their bandwidth,
Leopard users would get rewards like credit at the iTunes Music Store and Apple would save "hundreds of thousands

Bittorrent is a really useful tool to remove the strain of running your own server. However, you have to depend on the number of users actually sharing the files and whether or not the bittorrent traffic is blocked via firewall and/or router configs.
That's why implementing bittorrent as part of an update system is always an "iffy" deal.
I suspect that this will never take off.

Don't discount it... even if 10% of your users are savvy enough to implement it through their firewalls... think of networks of OS X computers able to download one update and share it internally?
In the M$ world, you need a WSUS server and local config changes to make that work.
Chalk another "I can do it better than you" to Apple.
