If you use Pinnacle Systems' line of Studio
software, there's an update (10.5) that adds the ability to export your content to PSP and iPod. Even better though, is the coming export capabilities in their
PCTV line. You'll be able
to record TV shows, and fairly easily move them to portable devices. In addition, they are announcing new Mobile Media products,
designed specifically to move portable content around.Unfortunately, all this stuff is still through Pinnacle Systems. While AVID, the parent company of Pinnacle, creates world-class products for film and video professionals (they have a whole room of Emmy's and Oscar's to prove it), Pinnacle Systems has disappointed me time and again. In fact, I have yet to purchase a product from Pinnacle that didn't just suck. The hardware is good, but their drivers are infamous. They are also somewhat notorious for making a product, then not standing behind that later. Case in point: the video breakout box we purchased back in 2001 no longer works in Windows. XP broke it, and Pinnacle has said it will NOT be updated. Meanwhile, we (the school I work for) bought a Dazzle device. Again, the software went buggy. So I call Pinnacle for support. Your first call is free, so I made it count, walking through the process of reinstalling, updating, etc. with the tech on the phone. He wouldn't sit until I'd tested it, so I had to hang up before we knew the issue was resolved. Unfortunately, he marked the issue as resolved, so it'll cost our school money to even call them again. We've since quit using Pinnacle at our location. But if you're using it successfully, I guess this export thing is good news.

I have an old Pinnacle Studio card, and it works like a charm. I even dare to use Studio to edit quick family films. When thing go serious i switch over to Vegas, but the pinnacle was worth the money.

I would never pluck my money down for a Pinnacle or Roxio (for that matter) product again.
Pure garbage out of the box, buggy, not ready for primetime code means you will spend countless hours updating and reinstalling frequently trying to justify your purchase. Don't bother...companies that release code of this quality should be held accountable and taken to court as far as I am concerned.
They are only interested in keeping up with each other not delivering robust, scalable, feature rich solutions that work. You would be better of finding your nearest snake oil salesmen with yet another cure for baldness and giving them your money.
I really wish someone would hold these guys to account for themselves and what and how they advertise.
If you really want it, get ready for an endless investment in upgrades that you will need to pay for, hoping that they will finally get it right.
No thanks, never again...like I said pure rubbish.
They should be ashamed of themselves.

Sometimes these things work, but so often the drivers are horrible. And adding insult to injury, I just had to call Pinnacle to remove me from their mailing list. Trying 3 times to unsubscribe proved fruitless. Isn't that a violation of some law or something?

Wow. Why is it that everytime I see Pinnacle mentioned it's accompanied by a rant about how they suck? Personally, I feel sorry for those that can't get things working. I started with Studio 6 years ago, used 7, 8, and 9+, then moved up to Pinnacle Liquid Edition. I have NEVER had any problems, I have completed hundreds of hours of DVDs, with full menus and extras.
Oh, and I never paid for an upgrade. Where's that coming from? Do you mean between versions? That's like saying, "Hey, I bought Windows 95, why should I have to pay for XP?"

Sony Media Software just released a free update to their Vegas 6 video editing software that supports output to iPod and PSP. It uses the high-quality H.264/AVC video format for both.
