TrackMania Nations - Today's Time Waster
Today's Time Waster is a little different than the previous ones we've had, in that this one is a
265 MB download. But it's worth it if you're a racing game fan. TrackMania is a well known series of online 3D racing
games made by Nadeo. Previous versions of this game have been retail games, however for this version Nadeo decided to
release it for free. Gamers around the world can and are downloading and racing TrackMania Nations with the intent to enter the Electronic Sports World
Cup and try to become the champion racer. It's okay if your goals aren't so lofty - just playing a fun racer is
worthwhile too.
So, just how good at time waster games are you? Think you've got the stuff? Well, The World's Hardest Game 2.0 doesn't think you do.
Yes, amazingly, it's possible to have a sequel to a game called "The World's Hardest Game". It doesn't seem logically possible, since if the first one was actually the world's hardest, how could another one come along and share the moniker? It made me doubt the name in the first place. That is, until I tried the game.
The mechanics of the game are very simple. You are a small red square, ...

Starforce should not prevent people for trying it. I've written a rant against Starforce maybe one week prior to discovering TMN.
Starforce doesn't installs itself with TM-N most of the time. And when it does, it's uninstalable and the game still runs (TM Nation).
My bet is that they have a deal with Starforce, as they have no particular reason to use anty piracy tools in a freely available game.
That being said, the first reason for wich people should give TMN a try is that it's really good.
It's very arcade oriented, makes a good use of both low and high end graphic cards, and reminds me of the plain fun i had with for exemple F-zero (see the F-0 track in TMN :) or with mario kart in time trial mode (i've spent nights on it).
It's also very fast paced and rather difficult. Right now, a fair amount of servers are up (like 400 maybe) and theres a lot of fun in racing versus 20 or even 60 adversaries. If you've read me up to there, you know that i'm having a blast (and i hope that many people will) :D

I wouldn't download this game - there are worries about its being full of dodgy drm drivers:

I agree, you should not download this or any other game containing starforce copy protection. It can permanently damage your cd/dvd drives and starforce will not reimburse you. They don't even acknowledge a problem despite the thousands of complaints of degraded performance and/or death of a drive.
