Sony halts rootkit CD production

After a week of increasingly angry responses from consumers, Sony BMG has finally decided to stop making CDs using its controversial DRM "rootkit." In a statement, the company admitted no wrongdoing, and said "as a precautionary measure, Sony BMG is temporarily suspending the manufacture of CDs containing XCP technology." The move may do little to quell consumer frustration, however, since Sony remains committed to using DRM on future CD releases.
