Download Internet Explorer 7 beta?

Over on Digg there's a link to a supposed copy of IE 7... Er, I'm sorry, Windows Internet Explorer 7. Most of the folks in the comments were totally afraid to install it. Not without good reason, as it's a rar file, doesn't have the "new" title in there, and the logo is different. Oooh, scary! Being the brave yet stupid installer that I am (and armed with antivirus out the wazoo), I went ahead and tried it out.

At first I was a little worried. After a simple install my machine rebooted and the C drive ran chkdsk. Ulp. After a successful boot and some ominous settings and registry changes though— it ran pretty well. Upon first launching there's a new warning to make sure you want IE checking all the sites you travel to, attempting to limit phishing scams. All the stuff you've heard about is there: tabbed browsing, the little search (MSN default, you can choose others) window, etc. The URL bar is now above the textual menus, which I thought was kind of odd. Google Toolbar, which had been on my IE 6 install seemed to work fine. The logo (under the Help menu) still didn't look right, as it was sans yellow swoosh.

In the final analysis this was probably nothing more than some quasi-legal release on the part of soft32. Makes me wonder if this was intentional or not...

hasn't the IE7 beta been leaked for a while, I installed it on my XP system a good while ago

it seemed ok, interface could use a bit of work though

yeah, y'all are way behind...i've had this on my computer for several weeks. but it still doesn't match up to firefox and i wont be using it until it does

you know what they said? once you took firefox in, you never turn back; variety is good, but not on this case.

#4, Conversely, one might say "Once you take Opera in, you never go back!", as some people actually do find firefox useless (I for one find it seriously lacking, and if loaded with extentions, slow. Not to mention that most extentions do not follow any one set of style guidelines, so there's no contiguous layout style).

One a more on-topic note: There've been a few major download sites with the first beta for a while. (I found it about four weeks ago)

Mmm... RAR. This is the kind of download you should be testing in a VMWare machine. Actually, your PC would thank you if you used it to test all the millions of soft you download and install every day.

Civiballs is a beautiful, soothing physics puzzle Time Waster

I have an absolute weakness for physics games, and while Civiballs isn't the strongest physics-based game, what it lacks in the physics department it makes up for a few times over in style and fun.

In Civiballs, you are presented with a few colored balls, and your goal is to get those balls into the same-colored urn on the level. The "civi" part of Civiballs is that there are 3 sets of levels to play, each representing a different civilization. While the civilization doesn't affect gameplay, the artwork for each level is beautifully themed to it's appropriate era.

To play the game, you are given only one tool - a sword with which to cut the chains that are holding the balls. The puzzle part of the game is in figuring out what order, and with what timing to cut each chain. Do it right, and all the right balls end up in the right urns, with no stray balls entering an urn (a no-no). Do it wrong, and you get to start over again.

Civiballs is not terribly deep on gameplay; the entire game can be completed in about 15 minutes. But if you enjoy this type of game, it will be a very enjoyable 15 minutes.
