Internet Explorer 7 gets new name, new logo
You can officially quit calling it Internet Explorer. It is now (dramatic crescendo): Windows Internet Explorer 7. And to further confuse everyone, there is a new logo for IE, er, Windows Internet Explorer 7. That's the graphic gracing this post. A yellow swoosh! In the world of color theory yellow means "intellect, freshness, joy." OK, I see why they would choose that over, say, vermillion. According to the IE team blog they also darkened the edges a bit to increase contrast with paler backgrounds. That makes sense too. What isn't really said on their blog is anything regarding the name change. But Paul Thurrott surmises (and I agree) it's to increase the brand presence for Microsoft's primary cash cow: the Windows operating system. It also tends to make it clear there will never again be an IE for Mac, and don't get me started on that IE for Linux... And just so you know, that color blue is all business.

They probably just put the orange swosh in there so people will confuse it with Firefox's icon. Oh, and my sympathies go out to whoever has to us IE on a mac to view certain websites. Looks like your days are numbered.

Don't forget no IE for Windows.. I'm pretty sure that Windows Internet Explorer 7 will only be made available to users running Windows XP. So my Win2k box will not be enjoying that nifty new logo of theirs, either.

I wonder if I can sue them since their new logo is so close to the one I designed for the fef.net irc network like 8 years ago?
