MyGuestmap: Yet another cool Google Maps Hack

A guestmap is like a guestbook, except it shows you where in the world the signers are concentrated. MyGuestmap is the first guestmap service I've seen that uses the Google Maps API, and also happens to be one of the first Google Maps hacks I've seen that deserves more than ten seconds' worth of Ooh and Ahh. MyGuestmap comes from the "the simplest thing that could possibly work" school of design, so it's pretty no-frills, but it's easy to create your own guestmap and there are even four sets of cute icons (which visitors use to mark their location) to choose from. Wow, I would really like to use something like this on my website simply because it is very interesting. I like how something like this allows you to actually see on a map where someone is instead of trying to visualize it. I don't know how it would work for me though, are you able to zoom into the map and acutally see smaller cities and everything? I would like to know that because, I don't get too many people signing my guest book from out of state. Hey, check out my site for your self, just click on my name and go there. Yep, you can zoom into "cities and everything" as it uses the googlemaps API which is pretty damn good. Put it this way, I've placed my own pin on the marker (a little village called Grovesend near Swansea in Wales) and there's a population of about 800 there so if it can show that (with all the roads and country lanes) I'm sure it will be ok for you.

Speaking of which, I can't believe there's only MattJ and myself from the UK who look at DownloadSquad! Come on the rest of you Brits, get pinning!! :)

Hey I came across this from Hack-a-Day, and I think it is cool. But it should work by the location being AUTOMATIC getting it from their IP. And then just let people post a comment, place in their location auto :D

This was you will definatly see where your users are coming from and not just a place they have put down :D

Civiballs is a beautiful, soothing physics puzzle Time Waster

I have an absolute weakness for physics games, and while Civiballs isn't the strongest physics-based game, what it lacks in the physics department it makes up for a few times over in style and fun.

In Civiballs, you are presented with a few colored balls, and your goal is to get those balls into the same-colored urn on the level. The "civi" part of Civiballs is that there are 3 sets of levels to play, each representing a different civilization. While the civilization doesn't affect gameplay, the artwork for each level is beautifully themed to it's appropriate era.

To play the game, you are given only one tool - a sword with which to cut the chains that are holding the balls. The puzzle part of the game is in figuring out what order, and with what timing to cut each chain. Do it right, and all the right balls end up in the right urns, with no stray balls entering an urn (a no-no). Do it wrong, and you get to start over again.

Civiballs is not terribly deep on gameplay; the entire game can be completed in about 15 minutes. But if you enjoy this type of game, it will be a very enjoyable 15 minutes.
