Looking to convince someone that open source is the way to go? You could do worse than to give them a copy of "Free Software for Busy People," available as a free e-book or a $24.99 paperback. The book, by Mohammad Al-Ubaydli, a doctor and programmer, provides tips on using a range of popular open source apps, including OpenOffice.org and Firefox. Along the way, the author introduces a series of characters designed to provide real-world examples of open source usage. It's a cute device that doesn't always work — do we really care that "Dr. Digitalis" was able to open Word docs with OpenOffice? Still, it's an impressive effort, and well worth the download.
With Halloween fast approaching, it's a great time to get in some practice defending your territory against zombies. In Graveyard Shift, you take aim at zombies and other creepy-crawlies, blasting them into splatters of cartoony green guts. It's a casual first-person shooter, and it's very easy to get the hang of - use the mouse to aim, click to fire. Graveyard Shift has at least 15 levels, and it might even have some secret stages I haven't unlocked yet.
