Report: Microsoft not buying Claria
Looks like Microsoft isn't getting into the spyware biz after all. Word is that the company isn't going to buy spyware-maker Claria (aka Gator). According to ClickZ, Microsoft is still interested in targeting technology similar to Claria's, but no partner is "officially in scope at this time." The possible Claria deal raised concerns about spyware — especially after Microsoft downgraded Claria in its Anti-Spyware product, an occurrence the company said was unrelated to any potential acquisition.
